Scientists Say Invisibility Cloak Now Possible

"Scientists say they are a step closer to developing materials that could render people and objects invisible.

Researchers have demonstrated for the first time they were able to cloak three-dimensional objects using artificially engineered materials that redirect light around the objects. Previously, they only have been able to cloak very thin two-dimensional objects.

The findings, by scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, led by Xiang Zhang, are to be released later this week in the journals Nature and Science.

The new work moves scientists a step closer to hiding people and objects from visible light, which could have broad applications, including military ones.

People can see objects because they scatter the light that strikes them, reflecting some of it back to the eye. Cloaking uses materials, known as metamaterials, to deflect radar, light or other waves around an object, like water flowing around a smooth rock in a stream.

Metamaterials are mixtures of metal and circuit board materials such as ceramic, Teflon or fiber composite. They are designed to bend visible light in a way that ordinary materials don't. Scientists are trying to use them to bend light around objects so they don't create reflections or shadows.

It differs from stealth technology, which does not make an aircraft invisible but reduces the cross-section available to radar, making it hard to track.

The research was funded in part by the U.S. Army Research Office and the National Science Foundation's Nano-Scale Science and Engineering Center." [article from PerezHilton.com]

Uhh..

Don't these people realize how dangerous this could be..?

Well it's 4:30am.

me and my cousin are watching the beijing olympics. it's been on since.. 10pm? so we've been watching it for about six and a half hours straight. it's hard not to watch. the opening ceremony was amazing, all the fireworks, and the dancers.. it was so amazing i began to cry. a man flew up on wires and lit the huge torch. i felt multicultural all of a sudden, because 205 countries came together and celebrated in happiness. so amazing. i'm actually surprised i've only the used the word 'amazing' four times. it's worth a million amazing's.

(six amazing's i've used now, counting that one over there <<)

Question !

I was wondering what the best camera is for concerts? I love my camera, but it SUCKS for concerts. Last night I went to see Theory of a Deadman and whatever color the lights were was how the band turned out. So, during the orange lighting when I took photos, they looked like oompaloompas. Except, rockstar style.

So, anyone know any good cameras suitable for concerts? &Please add prices, if you know them, thanks !

WARNING: If you have a weak stomach, please do not read the following!

This is disgusting shit. Seriously, if you have a weak stomach, EX OUT OF THE PAGE IMMEDIATELY.

A seven year old boy (named Ondrej Mauerova) in the Czech Republic was found chained in the cellar of his home, where his family tortured him and ATE parts of him. Relatives who were also in the cannabalistic cult feasted on his raw flesh as well.

Ondrej, along with his nine-year old brother, were locked in cages, and were also handcuffed to tables as they were brutally burnt, whipped with belts, and tortured.

A neighbor helped rescue the children by purchasing a CCTV baby monitor, and picked up live images of Ondrej naked, beaten, and chained in a cellar. After calling the authorities, the police arrived next door and also freed a little girl holding onto a teddy bear.

This child turns out to be a 34 year old member of the cult, and one of the torturers as well! She was disguising herself as an adopted sister.

"Terrible things have happened. I realize it and can't understand how I could have allowed it," the boys' Mother, Skrlove, said, adding onto her excuse of "being brainwashed".

Skrlove fled and was later found in Norway disguising as a boy.

But seriously, how can you be brainwashed, into torturing and EATING your own child?!?!?
I don't understand! How could people even think about doing something like that? It's insanity. It's disgusting.

This is so sad, but it makes me so angry.

This journal is mostly a bunch of photos taken at Darien Lake.

Yesterday as a class trip we went to Darien Lake, and it was fucking AWESOME. One of the best days of my life, for sure, because that was my first time there, and only my second (or third?) time at an amusement park (first Marine Land). But yeah, all the rides were awesome, food was good, everything was. It actually rained a little but eventually cleared up. Nobody cared for the rain they still went on the rides like it was perfect weather, it was great. I actually sort of dreaded for this day to come because I kept having these strong feelings that I would die falling off a roller coaster.. but that obviously didn't happen, which is pretty cool! Haha. So everyone was obsessed with this ride called the Superman, which looked cool but I was afraid of the steep hill, so I didn't go on. Next year for sure, though.

Later after Brittney and Jordan were done with the Superman and a few other rides, we met up with Jansen, Nathan, Gage and Graham (haha Graham..) and I was somehow convinced to go on the most dangerous roller coaster, called the Predator. All I knew was that it was wooden but I didn't know what else was on it. All I knew was that I was afraid. So when it was our turn to go on, I sat down beside Brittney and began to cry a little. The roller coaster started and I was gripping onto the bar so hard, but I still felt like I was going to fall off. And I know for sure I would have if the roller coaster were a little longer than what it was. All it pretty much was, was a bunch of steep hills. Everyone was screaming having fun and afraid but I was screaming "NO!!!!!" the whole time through.. Fuck. It scared me so much. When it was over I was still crying. Brittney and Jansen were too, but Brittney wasn't really afraid much, and Jansen cried because he got hit in the balls really hard from the secure bars.. Everyone who goes on has some type of injury though, because it was wooden and it was all bumpy. My neck still hurts from it.

Me, Jordan, and Brittney. Excited to get inside..

Brittney folding her face..? If you will..

I was actually the most rational person at Darien Lake. At first..

Courtney and Noel!

Brittney and I.

Da blue&purple monkey!

The Mind Eraser. I think.

Brittney about to go all the way with an alien..

Jansen ruining the photo. Aha he looks bad in it, his loss.

So yeah, it was an amazing day!

THE BEST. MOVIE EVER. GOES TO:

SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET!

I have FINALLY seen it, just finished watching it now! It was a great movie and Johnny Depp's singing voice was better than I thought it would be. I wasn't really amused by the throat-slitting, it was disturbing for me. I loved the ending but was saddened when Sweeney Todd died. No matter how many people he killed, I was still on his side.. Hmm.

I kind of like the way Johnny Depp looks in this movie..
